The Importance of Picking Up Your Medications After Discharge

When you’re discharged from the hospital or emergency department, your prescribed medications are a vital part of your recovery. Filling these prescriptions can help decrease the risk of serious complications and readmission.

To support your recovery:

  • Understand your medications before leaving the hospital. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about what each prescription is for and how to take it.
  • Pick up your medications as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours of discharge, to stay on track with your treatment plan.
  • Discuss any concerns, especially regarding cost or access, your care team can help you find solutions or alternatives.
